William “Bill” John Petecca peacefully passed away on June 21, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, loyalty, and kindness. Bill was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend whose greatest joy in life was the people he loved.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 40 years, Patty, and their sons, Alex and Niklis (Jessica), who were the pride of his life. He is also survived by his siblings, Joey, Carmine (Gerri), and Mary; his father-in-law, Philip (Janet) Alessandro; his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Faith (Jim), John, and Vicky (Phil); his Uncle Jimmy; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews, all of whom held a special place in his heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Petecca and Dorothy O’Brien; many beloved aunts and uncles; and his lifelong best friend, Chappy.
Bill dedicated his career to serving others through his work, beginning at Clark Oil, where he met the love of his life, Patty, at the Painesville Clark station. Throughout the years he also worked for E-Check, PME, GetGo, and most recently, Circle K. He took tremendous pride in his work and was always willing to lend a helping hand to his coworkers. His loyalty, dependability, and work ethic earned the respect and friendship of everyone who knew him.
To know Bill was to know laughter. He loved telling jokes, making people smile, and finding little ways to brighten someone’s day. Whether surprising a family member with an unexpected visit, leaving notes on a windshield, or hiding a small gift for someone to discover, Bill delighted in making others feel loved.
As a father, he cherished conversations with his sons and daughter-in-law. Family movie nights often included Star Trek, superhero adventures, history documentaries, and action films. He enjoyed discussing history with his father-in-law, Phil, and never missed an opportunity to ask his mother-in-law, Janet, to bake one of her famous homemade pecan pies.
Bill proudly embraced his inner Trekkie and was a lifelong fan of Superman and Batman comics and movies. He loved decorating his home for Christmas, taking pride in creating a festive display for family and neighbors to enjoy, and found peace working in his yard.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Bill’s family, in-laws, friends, coworkers, and his medical team for the love, care, and support they provided throughout his journey.
As Mr. Spock so fittingly said, “I have been, and always shall be, your friend.” Those words capture the way Bill lived his life—with unwavering loyalty, compassion, and friendship.
And as Bill embarks on his final mission, we take comfort in another timeless quote:
“The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few… or the one. I never took the Kobayashi Maru test until now.”
Family and friends are invited to pay their final respects during Bill’s final mission on Sunday, August 9, 2026, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.—a date that would have marked Bill and Patty’s 40th wedding anniversary—at Tom’s Country Place, 3442 Stoney Ridge Road, Avon, Ohio 44011.
In honor of Bill’s fun-loving spirit and the things he loved most, guests are warmly encouraged to wear their favorite Star Trek or superhero attire.
Though his earthly journey has come to an end, Bill’s love, laughter, generosity, and spirit will remain with all who were fortunate enough to know him. His memory will live long and prosper in the hearts of those who loved him.
Wyers-Bollinger Funeral Chapel is honored to be assisting the family at this time.
