Alfred F. “Sonny” Tyree, Jr., 87 of Elyria passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2026. He was a US Navy veteran. Sonny was an active member of Liberty Baptist Church in Elyria where he sang duets with his wife Audrey Jean. He also was a member of the “Singing Seniors” community group, along with his wife, which entertained at various area nursing homes. Sonny retired from General Motors, and then was the proud owner/operator of a semi-truck and drove that until his second retirement. Above all, Sonny had a generous, loving heart and would go out of his way to help anybody in need. He will be truly missed.
Sonny is survived by his beloved wife of 14 years, Audrey Jean; children, David Tyree of Elyria, and Larry Tyree (Catherine) of Lorain; stepchildren, Michael King of Amherst Twp., Brian King (Roberta) of Mansfield, and Skippy King of Amherst Twp.; 12 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; 2 great great great grandchildren; brothers, Ronald Tyree (Reggie) of Tennessee and Ricky Tyree of Oklahoma; and sisters, Susan Walls of AR, and Vickie Ray (Kevin) of Eaton Twp.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Ruth Tyree; brothers, Larry and Allen Tyree; daughter, Debbie Tingler; son, Michael Tyree; and first wife, Wanda Tyree.
The family will receive friends at the Wyers-Bollinger Funeral Chapel, 2900 N. Ridge Rd., Sheffield Twp. on Friday, June 5 from 10:00 am until the funeral service at 11:00 am. Burial to follow at Brookdale Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made to Liberty Baptist Church, 1017 Lake Ave., Elyria, Ohio 44035
