Rosemary Standen

Our beloved Rosemary Standen (nee Bates), 75, of Lorain, OH was called home to be with our Lord on Friday, October 15, 2021 following a courageous battel with a long-term illness.

Born January 12, 1946 in Barbersville, West Virginia, Rosemary moved to Ohio with her family in grade school. She was a long-time resident of Lorain, OH where she was a member of the UAW, retiring from Ford Motor Company’s Lorain assembly plant after 30+ years of service. Rosemary enjoyed her retirement by tending to her many flower beds, bird feeders, and home improvement projects. She was a fan of old Western TV shows, movies, and country music. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family. Whether it was card games (which she usually won), cook-outs, trips to Pennsylvania, or just hanging out, she loved being in the company of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Rosemary was the last surviving child of Henry and Stella Bates. She is survived by her loving children, sons, Andrew Vargovich, Thomas Vargovich (Cindy Gatlin), and Charles Lawson (Victoria Lawson); daughter, Lisa Sleasman (nee Vargovich) (Kevin Sleasman); grandchildren, Brandi Ritenour, James Ritenour, Thomas Vargovich, Jr., Andrew Vargovich, Jr., Kasey Vargovich, and Riley Vargovich; and great-grandchildren, Karrah Sanner, Kristin Sanner, Faith Ritenour, James Ritenour, and Ja’Kari Vargovich. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Stella Bates, as well as her five sisters, two step-sisters and one step-brother.

The family will receive friends at the Wyers-Bollinger Funeral Chapel, 2900 N. Ridge Rd. E., Sheffield Twp. on Thursday, October 21 from 4-5:30PM when a memorial service will begin. The family will be hosting a gathering immediately following the service at Quaker Steak and Lube, 4900 Transportation Dr., Sheffield. The family will provide masks for discretionary use.
