Richard “Rich” J. Johnson Jr., age 76, went to be with our son in heaven, Monday, June 29, 2026, at Avon Cleveland Clinic Hospital. Born on July 30, 1949, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, to the late Richard Sr. and Lillian (nee Whatmore) Johnson.
Rich was a graduate of Amherst High School, followed by service in the United States Navy. He served on the naval ship U.U.S. Hank, from 1968 – 1973.
Rich retired from U S Steel/Republic Steel mill in Lorain, Ohio with 40+ years.
Rich was also a licensed realtor, liked taking pictures of wildlife. His favorite subject, Eagles! He religiously watched a nest that was located across from Lakeview Park. Rich loved traveling; he explored places like Italy, Greece, Dominican Republic, and ¾ of the United States including Alaska.
Rich loved game nights with friends and family and spending time with his grandkids. He loved gardening and enjoyed mowing his grass.
He is survived by his wife, of 49 ½ years, Lisa (nee Conti) Johnson; daughters, Michelle (Greg) Wenta, and Kimberely (Robert) O’Connor; grandchildren, Gianna, Madelyn, and Jace; and his two dogs, Shadow and Lily.
Preceded in death by parents, Richard Sr. and Lillian (Whatmore) Johnson; Our Son, Richard Joselph Johnson III; brother John D. Johnson; nephew, Edward Johnson; Uncles, Aunts and grandparents.
The family will receive friends at Wyers-Bollinger Funeral Chapel, 2900 N. Ridge Rd E, Sheffield TWP on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, from 4 pm - 8pm. The funeral mass will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at 12pm at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 Saint Joseph Dr, Amherst, OH 44001, followed by the interment at Resthaven Memory Gardens, 3700 Center Rd, Avon.
In leu of flowers, contributions may be made in Rich’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for Cancer.
