In Loving Memory of Johnnie Henry Moore, Sr.

Johnnie Henry Moore, Sr., age 68, passed away on July 4, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Fairmont, West Virginia on December 3, 1957, Johnnie was raised in Lorain, Ohio, where he built a life defined by loyalty, passion, and service to others. To many who knew and loved him, he was affectionately called “Sput”.

Johnnie was a man of intense intellect and dedication. As a pool technician, his expertise earned him the title of “Chemist” among those he worked with; he possessed the rare ability to simply look at a pool and immediately diagnose the problem. When Johnnie was passionate about something, he researched it completely and remembered every fine detail. This extended to his deep love for Old Country music, where he found great joy in the storytelling of the singers and the depth of the lyrics.

An ultimate sports enthusiast, Johnnie knew everything about any sport or athlete. He was a massive LeBron James fan, but above all, he was a loyal devotee to Ohio sports. He followed the teams, not the players – if someone wore the orange and brown of the Cleveland Browns, the Guardians, the Cavs, or the Ohio State Buckeyes, Johnnie was loudly cheering them on. When he wasn’t watching a game, he was enjoying the outdoors as an avid fisherman and hunter. He cherished hunting in the mountains of West Virginia, where he loved spending time with family and friends, especially his dear Aunt Betty.

Of all his achievements, the absolute cornerstone of Johnnie’s life was his journey through sobriety and his dedication to Alcoholics Anonymous. Over his nearly 20 years of sobriety, Johnnie touched and transformed countless lives. He took immense pride in the fact that God had given him a different way of living, and he remains fiercely humble in helping others discover that same path. Whether you knew him as Johnnie Moore or “Sput” you knew you had a true, unwavering friend.

Johnnie hailed from a massive, deeply loving family. As the first-born son, he shared a profoundly special bond with his mother, often joking that he was the one who raised her. She will be lost without him.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Henry Moore, his brother, David Lee Moore; and his two nephews, Travis and Zachary Spurlock.

Johnnie’s legacy will live on through his mother, Margaret (Denver) Casto; his children, Raelonda (Larry) Graham, Sharice Moore, and Johnnie (Heather) Moore, Jr.; and his significant other, Traci Cole Moore. He is also survived by his siblings, Priscilla (David) Berthold, Sherry Moore, Joe (Denise) Moore, Mary (Jane) Moore, George (Tiffany) Moore, Veronica Spurlock; Lisa (Steven) Hughes, Billie Moore and Betsy Moore and including Joshua and Alisa Moore who were raised as his own children. His grandchildren include Aaron Brooks, Jr., LaRae Graham, Larry Graham, Aryia Moore and Johnnie Moore III as well as many loved nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

In accordance with his wishes, Johnnie will be cremated and his will family will later spread his cremains in the beautiful mountains of West Virginia, where his spirit was always at home. May he rest in eternal peace with our Lord and Saviour.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a Visitation and Celebration of Johnnie’s Life on Friday, July 10th, 2026 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Wyers-Bollinger Funeral Chapel, located at 2900 N. Ridge Road, Elyria, Ohio, where a Remembrance Service will be held at 5:00 p.m., a memorial address by Don Findley, followed by an open floor for comments, and a brief closing prayer.

In lieu of flowers, as Johnnie’s illness was unexpected, he did not carry insurance to cover funeral costs, and the family humbly asks that any donations be made directly to Wyers-Bollinger Funeral Chapel to help cover these expenses. The Moore family deeply thank you for your kindness and generosity during this painful time.
