JOHN RYGG LARSON, 85 of Bay Village, passed away on Wednesday, June 2, 2021. He was born on July 20, 1935 in Brooklyn, NY to Ernst and Signe Larson, who had immigrated to America. He went to high school in Brooklyn and got an Associates Degree from Allfred Community College. John faithfully served in the Army from 1958-60, having served in Germany. In 1962 he moved to Scranton, PA, and then settled in Bay Village in 1965, where he raised his family. He worked for Conrail Railroad for 40 years.


John was a member of Masonic Lodges in Hornell, NY and Rocky River, OH for over 60 years. He also was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years. Other Masonic affiliations included the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite and Al Koran Shriners. As a member of the Shriners, John was active with the Lorain Shrine Club; Mansfield Shrine Club; and was the secretary for many years for the Bay Shrine Club and the Hillbilly Clan. He participated in many, many parades and he drove innumerable families to and from various Shrine Hospitals. He will be greatly missed by all.


John is survived by his beloved wife Joanne (nee Armstrong); loving children, Brent (Terri Cothran) and Kyle (Colleen Ryan); grandchildren, Jonathan (Katy Morton), Elizabeth and John Larson; great grandchildren, Brentley and Tucker Larson.

He was preceded in death by his brother Frank Larson.


The family will receive friends Sunday, June 6 from 4-6pm at the WYERS-BOLLINGER FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2900 N. RIDGE RD., SHEFFIELD TWP, with a Masonic funeral service at 6pm, followed by a service of remembrance. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made to Al Koran Shriners, PO Box 81184, Cleveland, OH 44181.
