The family of James “Jim” Minnich is deeply saddened to announce his passing on February 5, 2026. Born on March 26, 1926, in Lorain, Ohio, Jim lived a life filled with laughter and love for the outdoors.
Beloved husband of the late Patricia (Adolphson). Father of Jim (Xue), Patti, John (Claudia), Norman (Joy), Tim (Becky) Proud grandfather, great grandfather, and great great grandfather. Survived by his sister Elayne (John) Turcotte and Deanna (Ron deceased) Koepp. Preceded in death by his siblings, Jerry, Lois (Jim Kent), Eugene, Don, and Al. He leaves behind cherished nephews and nieces.
A grateful thank you to Bob Pelger for his trip to San Francisco to see the last landing craft support ship and being a Guardian on his Honor Flight trip to Washington D.C. Jim served in the United States Navy from 1944 to May of 1946 in the South Pacific on Landing Craft Support Ship (USS-LCS(L) 29). Jim had various jobs in the steel industry, then landed a job at General Motors as a millwright for 26 years until his retirement. Jim always enjoyed square dancing with his wife, fishing on Lake Erie with his brothers, many trips to the Pennsylvania with his sons and grandsons, always loved being with his family and was a great story teller.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at a later date. The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Lori Slaven for her devoted care, companionship and compassion which allowed Jim to remain at home during his final years. Thanks to the staff of Ames Hospice Westlake for their support and care during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the VFW Post 7035 - Avon, Ames Hospice Westlake and Landing Craft Museum - San Francisco, California.
