James Minick, age 91, of Valley City, Ohio passed away on Friday, January 8, 2021 after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Derry, Pennsylvania and resided in Valley City for 52 years.
James graduated from Derry Township High School in Derry, PA. He served with the U.S. Air Force during World War II. In 1953 he graduated from Penn State University receiving his Bachelor of Science Degree and spent 29 years teaching in secondary schools. He retired from his teaching career as a mathematics teacher at Medina Junior High School in Medina, Ohio.
James had a passion for gardening and enjoyed sharing that with others. He continued that passion even despite being ill. He had a love of animals and nature. He was a man who had strong faith and attended the First Baptist Church of Valley City for many years.
He is survived by his sons Gregory (Jayne) of Sheffield Lake, Kenneth (Maggie Bridge) of Spencer, Michael of Brunswick, and daughter Deborah (Smith) of Avon. James was a grandfather of seven (Jennifer, Michelle, Ryan, Matthew, Heather, Rachel, and Christopher) and a great grandfather of six (Johnathan, MacKenzie, Autumn, Katarina, Persephone, and Christopher).
He was preceded in death by his wife Ann of sixty years, his parents Floyd and Mary Minick, and his brothers Robert and Floyd.
