Herbert Carl Zielke, 83, of Lorain, Ohio passed away peacefully on April 25th, 2026, surrounded by family. Born in Elyria, Ohio, Herbert was the beloved son of Dorothy A. Glass (Zielke) and Herbert A. Zielke. He was the eldest son of eight children; a role he carried with strength, pride, and a deep sense of responsibility throughout his life.

A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Herbert served his country honorably as a chef. During his service, he eloped to Monroe, Michigan, where he married the love of his life, Frances Lee Zielke. Together they returned to Elyria, Ohio, where they built a life centered around love, family, and hard work.

Herbert was a master electrician and a dedicated worker who retired from Lorain County Administration. Over the years, he also worked as a roofer and an electrician at Gypsum. Always taking pride in providing for his family, he was a devoted family man—someone who would do anything for those he loved. Herbert had a gift for conversation and could strike up a friendship wherever he went. He loved spending time in his garage, listening to the oldies, sipping Jack Daniels, and sharing stories that could go on for hours. His presence brought comfort, laughter, and a sense of home to everyone around him. Herbert enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and dancing. He was an active member of the F.O.E., P.A.C.C., Slovak Club, Amvets, and remained a proud, devoted veteran throughout his entire life. Herbert was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He truly lived for his family, and to them, he will always be our hero.

He is survived by his loving daughters, Kimberly Kolcun (Zielke), Teresa Zielke Thomas (A.J.) of South Carolina, and Theresa Gallatin (Lance); his cherished grandchildren, Jennifer Edwards (Terrell), Ashley Eary, Dillon Howie (Quin) of South Carolina, Damien Gallatin and Shane Caldwell; and his adored great grandchildren, Kaelan and Brynndal Edwards.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Frances Lee Zielke; his infant son, Michael A. Zielke; his parents; brothers and sisters; and his dog, Tazzy.

A celebration of Herbert’s life will be held at a later date.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Wyers-Bollinger Funeral Chapel.
