It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Evan L. Lawlis, a cherished son, husband, brother, uncle, Army Veteran and friend to many. He departed this world too soon in the warmth of his beloved Loran, Ohio. He was born in Clarksburg, West Virginia to Raymond L Lawlis and Delma L. (nee Skinner) Lawlis before coming to live in Lorain at an early age.
Evan’s life was a testament to the values of kindness and honor his parents instilled in him, and this dedication was evidenced by his love for others throughout his life. Evan’s journey of service began with his honorable commitment to the United States Army. He proudly served from 1978 ~ 1982, and was marked by courage, comradery and unwavering dedication to his country.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Delma Lawlis; his twin brother, Kevin L. Lawlis; father-in-law, Jim Fern; mother-in-law, Barb Fern; and three sisters-in-law, Cindy, Cathy and Barbie.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Cheryl L. Lawlis, who was a steady partner in life offering a beautiful testament of mutual support and shared dreams. He is also survived by his sister, Susan L. Lawlis; younger brother, Raymond L. Lawlis III (Larry); and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews on both sides of the family.
Those who knew Evan referred to him as a man with a gentle spirit and a heart as vast as the West Virginia hills. His contributions to family were boundless, and his sense of humor and kindness to all have left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Mercy New Life Hospice, as the doctors, nurses and nurse aides provided Evan with A LOT of compassionate care during his final days. The family also extends their heart felt gratitude to the dedicated surgeon and the doctors, nurses and nurse aides who cared for him at Mercy Health – Lorain Hospital.
All are invited to Wyers-Bollinger Funeral Chapel, 2900 N. Ridge Road, Elyria, Ohio on Monday, June 22, 2026 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 23, 2026 at 10:00 am, followed by Burial at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, 44805 N. Ridge Road in Amherst, Ohio, with full Military Honors.
The family requests that everyone attending, to honor the remarkable life he led, please wear jeans, Harley-Davidson tee shirts or just tee shirts. Thank you!
