Dorsey M Clapper

Dorsey Melvin Clapper, 94, of Amherst, passed away peacefully at his home on November 18, 2025, and was called home to his Lord and Savior. Born December 18, 1930, in Lakemont, Pennsylvania, he lived a full life, filled with love and deep dedication to his family and his country.Dorsey proudly served in the United States Army before beginning a long career with Ford Motor Company, where his artistic talent led to the creation of numerous freehand murals at the Avon Lake plant. Known for his strong work ethic and quiet determination, he took pride in everything he did. A man of exceptional skill, he was a skilled carpenter, mechanic, and marksman with both bow and firearm, earning numerous trophies throughout his life. He especially enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting and fishing, and he loved watching NASCAR races. He had a clever, inventive, and resourceful mind; whether it was a tool or something around the house, he could create a solution with whatever he had on hand—sometimes improving it, sometimes inventing something completely new. His skill as a woodcarver and artist allowed him to transform a piece of wood or blank space into beauty, and he also enjoyed music and playing the banjo. What he treasured most in life were the people he loved and who loved him. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren filled his heart with joy and brought out his biggest, brightest smiles.He shared 52 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Nancy, until her passing in 2006.

Dorsey is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Steve Morrison of Lorain; grandchildren, Brittany Kasperovich (Zack) and Stephen Morrison II; great-grandchildren, Ezra and Arlo; siblings Fred Clapper, Bill Thomas, and Dorothy Garabrandt; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy; son, Rick; parents, Ralph Bernard Clapper and Sarah Katherine (McIntyre); and siblings Paul, Dean, Kathleen, Leona, Virginia, Emma, Ethel, Ken, Dick, Grace, and Nancy.

Dorsey will be remembered for his patient and welcoming nature, his creativity and quick wit, and the way his extraordinary memory brought his stories to life. His warmth, kindness, and genuine presence left a lasting imprint on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
