Debra “Miss Alabama” Marie Lopez, 54, of Vermilion, Ohio, passed away April 27th, 2026, on her own terms, just as she did everything else. Debra was born November 7th, 1971, and outlived her 3 Siamese cats, a tornado, and a doctor who told her in 2008 that she had "to get her things in order."
Debra was a master fisher since she was a youngin’, there wasn’t a fish she couldn’t catch, except Gordon Ramsey. Debra raised two children, ran a house full of animals, and made the best macaroni salad anyone has ever tasted (don’t argue.) She was an 80s fanatic and loved teased hair, bright colors, and 80s music. In her spare time, she loved taking care of her grandkids and watching her soap operas. She knew every word to “K-pop Demon Hunters” by heart, thanks to all her grandbabies. There wasn’t a person around Debra that was a stranger, she loved anyone and everyone... who didn’t piss her off, that is.
Debra is survived by her husband, Zenon Lopez; her four kids, Klint, Danielle, Renee, and Zman; two sons-in-law, Derek C. and Steven S; 7 grandkid's, Palmer, Lorelei, Charlee, Rennon, Emelia, Elise, and Willow May; and her 3 cats and 1 dog who she liked better than most people, and that wasn’t something she hid. She is also survived by her dad, Joel Curtis and his wife, Kathy Curtis; brother, Joel Curtis and his wife, Jody; brother, Jim Curtis; and nieces and nephews, Jacob, Jenna, and Raven Curtis.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Debra Dechant, and her 3 angel grandkids. We know that she is with them now and they’re all dancing together.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 7 from 3:00 - 6:00 pm, with a memorial service immediately following at 6:00 pm at Wyers-Bollinger Funeral Chapel, 2900 N. Ridge Road, Sheffield Twp. An 80s-themed Celebration of Life will be held the same day at 4:00 p.m. at Pikewood Manor Hall, located in the building behind the pool, 1780 Lorain Boulevard, Elyria, Ohio 44035.
